Over the years, muscle cars can endure harsh wear and tear on the exterior paint job. It is important to touch-up your car’s paint to keep it not only aesthetically pleasing, but also to keep the value of the car high. To restore your car’s paint job you will need to have several different items. These include exterior car polish, carnauba wax, chamois cloth, non-detergent cleaner and a sponge.
Before you try to restore the existing paint job on your muscle car, ensure the vehicle does not need to have an entirely new paint job. You can find this information by closely examining the condition of the exterior paint, or by visiting a muscle car auto shop. To clean the exterior of your car, apply the non-detergent car cleaner to the vehicle. Do this in sections, starting in the front and working your way to the rear. Once you have applied enough cleaner to the exterior of the vehicle, thoroughly rinse the cleaner off and examine the paint quality. This will need to be done to also determine whether or not your muscle car will need a new paint job. Use the chamois cloth to completely dry your vehicle. Apply the polishing agent of your choice to the surface of the muscle car, making sure to use smooth, fluid movements. Do not use an excess amount of polish, this can damage the appearance of the paint, and will take more time to clean. Take the carnauba wax and apply it to the car in circular motions. Only perform this step after the first coat of polish has completely dried. You will know when your vehicle has been waxed thoroughly by how brightly the paint shines. To repaint your muscle car, you will need to either decide if you want to retain its original appearance by applying factory colors or choosing a unique color design. Muscle cars have a unique paint color, and there are many companies that specialize in repainting these vehicles in styles that return it to its natural beauty. Always have the repainting performed by a professional, unless you are skilled at painting cars, you will not want to risk uneven paint structure. Apply carnauba wax to the exterior of your vehicle after it has been repainted. Rust has a tendency to build-up on muscle cars, so if you are having your vehicle repainted make sure they repair any rust damage at the same time. To remove bumper stickers, and any other type of adhesive, you will use a lubricant aerosol spray. Allow the solution to soak into thesticker for several hours, and then begin to slowly peel the adhesive off your vehicle. Toensure you receive the best price from repainting companies, make sure you visit several different locations. Compare prices and be prepared to negotiate. Overall price will be determined by the paint color, condition of the vehicle and also any type of rust repair that must be performed during the paint job. Before you apply any type of cleaner or polish/wax to your muscle car, ensure that it will not strip the paint. |
