The new Chevrolet Camaro that is poised to be released in 2009 is something that car enthusiasts are waiting for with baited breath. The Camaro has always been a popular car with the American public having attained huge visibility for years especially with younger demographics.

When the Camaro went away a few years ago, everyone immediately knew in their heart of hearts that Chevy would bring it back. There were a few nay-Sayers who thought this signaled the trend towards efficiency and emissions reductions, and those are good things, but that the Camaro was gone for good. Most of us knew however, that Chevrolet would just bide their time until they thought the market would be most poised to accept the beloved Camaro back into the mix. With the Mustang atop the sales all by itself and the remodeling of both the Charger and the Challenge by Dodge, that time is now. The new Camaro will be ripping into a dealership near you with a 2009 model.

So what do we know? The car is going to be available in coupes or convertibles and feature a small block V8. The car has a strong nostalgic styling, reminding us of the Camaros of old even more than it does of the Camaros of the 1990s. The engine is a 6.0 L V-8 that is rated at an impressive 400hp. The car will be available in manual or automatic transmission that will give it a leg up on the first release of the Challenger, which is only going to come in automatics.

So it looks great, and it’s going to be fast. In a nutshell, those are the things we want from a Camaro, and it looks like Chevy is going to deliver. A lot of attention especially has been put into the styling of this car inside and out. Futuristic nostalgia is the only way to describe it. Every possible nod to the past has been given yet a final product has emerged that looks ahead of its times in every way. In an age where nearly every car that drives down the road looks like it was produced out of the same shell, the Camaro is going to be instantly identifiable as soon as it hits the road.

So what don’t we know? Well, the car hasn’t gotten into anyone’s hands yet to post official numbers on just how fast and powerful that 400hp engine is going to be when all the elements come together. What we really don’t know though, is if an economy in a recession and in a country with sky – high gas prices if the Camaro will really move beyond a certain demographics. Guy’s whose first car was a Camaro that are now retired millionaires? Oh, they’ll buy them. A twenty something that’s looking for his first car something sportier but efficient? Is he going to buy a Mazda or a Camaro? Only time will tell.
